Biography
George is one of Pretoria Country Club's finest products and
was a scholar at Affies. He started golf at the tender age
of 10 years old, and went on to win the very first
tournament he ever played in. But undoubtedly his finest
achievements as a junior came in the form of his fourth and
eighth placed finishes at the Junior World in San Diego
whilst he attended the University of San Diego for a
semester there. He decided to turn pro in 2007, and joined
the Sunshine Tour that same year. His impact on Tour was
immediate, as he claimed victory in his rookie season at the
Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour event at Selborne. He followed
this up with wins in 2008 at the SAA Pro-Am Invitational
and the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour event at Humewood. He
earned a European Tour card for the 2010 season, but had to
return to qualifying school at the end of the season.
Coetzee regained his playing rights, and had a successful
2011 season, with a runner-up place at the Johnnie Walker
Championship at Gleneagles and three third place finishes at
other tournaments. Coetzee finished the season ranked 26th
on the Race to Dubai. And in 2012, Coetzee further
established himself on the tour and has consistently
featured inside the top 50 in the Race to Dubai standings.
