Merrick Bremner

Merrick began the game of golf as an 11 year-old playing out of Kempton Park Golf Club. Like so many of his peers, his father taught him, and he had a passion for golf almost instantly. His junior career is littered with achievement, and he consistently represented Eastern Gauteng at junior level (in the U17, U19 and U23 teams) and senior level between 2001 and 2005. His breakthrough year arguably came in 2003 though, as he was selected for his country for the Junior World Cup after winning the Hans Merensky Open. It was after his last senior interprovincial in 2005 that Merrick decided to turn pro. He joined the Sunshine Tour that same year, but it was not until 2008 that he really began to make an impact. After securing his first top five finish two months before, he won the 2008 Lombard Insurance Classic. To prove it was no fluke, Merrick went on to win the Telkom PGA that same year, and finished a very impressive 31st on the Order of Merit. In the years subsequent to this Merrick has more than established himself on tour, securing numerous top 10 finishes and prize money in excess of R1.5 million. His aims are to consolidate this great start to his career and one day make his mark on the PGA and European Tours, and make the Presidents Cup team. His golfing inspiration is Ernie Els, who is a fellow graduate of Kempton Park Golf Club. Aside from playing, Merrick has his diploma in Golf Directorship and Club Management. The biggest moments of his life came when he survived both being shot at and a car accident. He is now engaged and looking to the future. He enjoys listening to the music of Snow Patrol, and is a massive sushi fan. He also loves his fishing, and his dream holiday destination would be anywhere tropical with a beach.
